Over 50 people were killed after a stampede broke out at a religious gathering for Lord Shiva in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras on Tuesday, police officials confirmed. Most of the attendees of the event were reportedly women.
UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath formed an enquiry team to take stock of the matter and offered condolences to the families of the deceased in the tragic incident at Hathras.
“UP CM Yogi Adityanath has expressed condolences to the bereaved families of those who died in the accident in Hathras district. He has also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured. He has directed the district administration officials to immediately take the injured to the hospital for their proper treatment and to speed up the relief work at the spot. He has given instructions to investigate the causes of the incident under the leadership of ADG Agra and Commissioner Aligarh,” Office of UP CM Yogi Adityanath wrote in a post on X.
Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Etah, Umesh Kumar Tripathi claimed that the death toll is expected to rise as a number of injured people have been rushed for immediate medical attention. At least 150 are currently hospitalised.
